Dolphins in Egypt

Widely regarded as a source of healing and inspiration, the experience of being close to a wild dolphin is unique. Sometimes they come close to the shore in Dahab, other times further out, and are best appreciated either by boat, pedalo or simply snorkelling.

The most common variety is Bottlenose dolphins that are very acrobatic, jumping up to 30 ft in the air or casually doing back flips. Most are quite tame - and intelligent; Bottlenose dolphins have been used in the Persian Gulf to search for mines.

They are also a sociable bunch: they assist injured members by placing one dolphin on each side and pushing it to the surface every few minutes to breathe and they associate with a wide variety of animals including humpback whales, sea turtles as well as humans.
